Hitokage Series -

these abstract paintings belong to a world of elegant, yet expressive minimalism - the spatial purity of white, subdued natural tones of linen and duck egg blue.Often the canvases give way to dramatic black calligraphic inspired marks or smoky washes mask details of the surrounding nature. The use of reduced palettes and gestural markmaking are reminiscent of japanese ink washed shoji screens and chinese zen landscapes. These works were featured on the cover of the national art school honors catalogue for 2004.
